We started working with ideas of what our final will be, I decided to create book ends inspired by Portal. They are a remake of a design that was being sold years ago, but they no longer available.
The model lay will be like the original design with the little human going through the portal that will be made using wood instead of metal or aluminum. I originally wanted to do some kind of metal but with the design tools we have it would be hard to get it cut and laid out.
I started with with laying out the person and portal from the original design that was available and then extruded them to begin the design of the actual bookends.
When building the structure of the bookends I made them try to be as close to the original design, I made it be 4in by 6in having the design be .5 in in thickness. The thickness of the design will change based on the material that is actually available to me.
I modified it a little as I worked on the final form of the bookend and made sure that the actual portal would be cut through the wood piece in the design. It took some time to get the correct shape to appear on the block instead of it merging, I needed it to be cut through just the center.
The final design once completed should look similar to the how the next picture looks and should be the exact size I need so it can fit on my shelf and hold my albums together.
